Must Watch- The Lady of the House

Lately got a chance to watch Late Rituparno Ghosh’s Bangla movie- Bariwali. I was, for a long time looking for the English Subtitled edition of the movie, after trying my hands on the Bengali version and difficulty in understanding it J . I rechecked my luck last weekend and to my surprise I located the dubbed English Version called ‘The Lady of the House’ on YouTube.

For those who don’t look only at Commercial stream of the Indian Cinema, this is a must watch. Released around a decade back, this is a true look at the Lonesome life of a single woman who due to the social taboos, couldn't get what she deserved in her life.  The movie depicts the life of Banalata who is  the central character played by Kiron Kher.

Kiron Kher  with her flair has done full justice to  the character of Banalata. Banalata is a lonely , sad woman whose to  be husband died 2 days before the marriage because of snake bite. Now in her mid forties and after so many years, she has never come out of the catastrophe. She lives alone is a big mansion with her staff.

She rarely goes out or meets people. Suddenly one day she meets a director who is going to shoot in her old big house for a movie.  She gets inclined towards the man even after knowing he is married.
